Training

We believe that Discovery Drilling are at the forefront of the drilling industry when it comes to training. We are committed to training and developing our staff to the highest available standards. We currently have 1 member of staff undertaking a British Drilling Association Apprenticeship – the first of its kind ever made available in the industry and something we are rightly proud of.

Level 2 NVQ’s are available for the three main drilling disciplines of Cable Percussion, Rotary Drilling and Dynamic Sampling. To ensure that Clients receive a safe and professional service we strongly believe that at the procurement or tendering stage it should be specified that crews should have at least one driller with the relevant NVQ and an assistant driller who is registered and working towards the relevant NVQ:

We strongly believe that it is only safe to work any rig with a minimum of 2 crew members with the exception of concrete coring.

All staff undertake the following training as a minimum:

• 4 Day 1st Aid Course
• Construction Skills Competence Scheme (CSCS) Cards
• NVQ Level 2 in Land Drilling
• Passport to Safety – Underground, Petrol Retail and Thames Water
• Network Rail PTS
• London Underground – Access Permits & Track/Depot Accustomed
• Radiodetection Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) – analogue and digital

In addition we also have some operatives with the following training:

• Streetworks Operative and Supervisor
• Chainsaw and brushcutter
• Logging to BS5930

Directors and Engineers also regularly attend conferences, seminars and courses covering business, health and safety, CDM regulations and various other technical topics.
